The latest Slackware logrotate package in this directory is also the latest currently available anywhere. The v.3.5.9-1 revision was ported directly from the Debian archives. The original v.2.5 'logrotat.tgz' slackpack (ported from Red Hat a while ago) is now renamed and lives on as 'logrotate-2.5.tgz'. It has been left here for those who prefer "slightly smaller" over "more functionality". But both versions should work on any Slackware distribution from 3.4 to 7.1 (and also on any Slackware-based Linuxes such as Alfa, Pygmy, Loop and our very own TripleG Linux). The size difference is mainly due to the stand-alone libpopt.so library required by (and added to) the 3.5.9-1 package. If you already have this library (and it is installed by default on Slackware 8.0 via both elflibs.tgz and rpm.tgz), the size difference becomes moot. You really should always go for version 3.5.9-1 just for the extra bells and whistles. What's 30K anyway these days? ************************************************************************ IMPORTANT NOTICE: It has been confirmed that the above packages will NOT work on Slackware 8.0 or on any other distribution based on 8.0. This is due to the fact that that 8.0 is missing libc5 and ldso, with which the above packages were compiled. For distributions based on Slackware 8.0 download logrotate-3.5.9-8.0.tgz package instead. ************************************************************************ I have not put up source code because a) I have very, VERY limited bandwidth, and b) five tarballs were used to make v.3.5.9-1 work on Slackware < 4.0. These tarballs, totalling about 1 MB, were: logrotate_3.5.9.orig.tar.gz logrotate_3.5.9-1.diff.gz popt_1.6.2.orig.tar.gz popt_1.6.2-5.diff.gz gettext-0.10.tar.gz The only modification to the above code was the removal of Red Hat references in logrotate.c (true Slackers will understand why :) If you really want the tarballs yourself, do a search on debian.org or Google. The source is readily available elsewhere, don't even ask me for it! Enjoy! George Georgakis Sunday 8 December 2001
